A Chess Piece

The game has been won declaring you a winner. Yet the opposing team won’t give up. Checkmate has been declared on our enemy Satan. He is in a losing battle but refuses to resign. Defiantly he ignores the declaration of “checkmate” nevertheless the Lord on his return will say “Check – Game over.” In Christ, you have been made victorious. Because of his death on the cross, you win.

In the interim, I feel like a chess piece moved around on a board strategically placed. A piece moved for the advantage of my team, yet sometimes to the detriment.  My enemy gets me to move into places I don’t belong, so that he can get to my King. Places such as:

  • DEFEAT.  (Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged. Joshua 1:9)
  • FEAR. (Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will rescue you, says the Lord. Jeremiah 1:9)
  • SADNESS. (The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18)

How easy I forget I am on the winning team. Victory has been declared and I am just waiting for the Award Ceremony!

How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
