Delight Yourself in the Lord…… DIY #3

What satisfies you? If contentment, fulfillment, and gratification are words that describe satisfy, what brings that fruition in your life? Do you seek your satisfaction in people, places, material things, wealth, and success? Or rather do you relate with the Rolling Stones song “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction?”
If in seeking to be satisfied we continually fall short I recommend changing the things that we delight in. Those things that we pour time, effort, heart and soul into quite possibly could continue to bring us back to feeling discontented and disillusioned. Why? Because we are trying to find satisfaction in those things that do not satisfy.
Isaiah 55:2 states, “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”
Delight is defined as a strong feeling of happiness, great pleasure or satisfaction, something that makes you very happy. Satisfaction is a by-product of delight. Therefore if you are not satisfied, what is it that you are delighting in? Are you wasting your time or money on things that do not satisfy?
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight YOURSELF in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” The Hebrew word for delight is “anag”, which is something delicate and pampered that we value.
A young boy was digging out in the backyard with a neighbor. Unable to find a shovel that would free him to dig faster; he went into the house and opened the china cabinet. After locating a large serving spoon in the silverware box he gleefully went back outside to dig. His new shovel was a family heirloom passed through the generations used at holidays and family functions with the delicate and pampered china.
Completely unaware that he had taken a valuable treasure from his mother to dig in the dirt, full clarity was made known to him later when his mother disciplined him! I share this story not only to get a chuckle out of you, but to bring understanding of what delight means.
He had taken a delicate treasure and diminished the value of it by using it for things that do not satisfy, much like us. We have reduced the value in our relationship with God, by trying to find satisfaction in empty places. Yet he lovingly encourages us to do something “yourself”: delight in Him.
Your relationship with Him should be important and valuable. Miraculously as we deem our walk with Him as a prized possession, our desires become more in line with His will and His purpose for our lives.  Since he is our creator and knows everything about us, he knows our gifts and talents and exactly where they could be utilized. That is where we find satisfaction my friend.
May I encourage you if you cannot find satisfaction to change what you delight in?  Then watch as the desires of your heart become reality and live out the perfect plan for our life…….which ultimately produces the satisfaction we long for.
