No! You Can’t! Don’t Do That!

Do you equate God with these words? No! You can’t! Don’t do that!

Do you feel as if:
·       God is in heaven pointing a finger at you yelling No!
·       Shaking his head in disgust screaming You can’t!
·       Glaring down his nose shouting Don’t Do That!
Sadly, many of us do.
Why? Because we believed what someone TOLD us or implied what God was like. But they were wrong. The Bible perfectly depicts who God is and what He is like. Sadly, many of us do not know what the Bible says because we don’t read it.
Emphasize the word in BOLD:
·       WHO told you that?
o   Who was the person that stated the information?
·       Who TOLD you that?
o   Who communicated that belief to you?
·       Who told YOU that?
o   Why did they feel it necessary to share that information with you?
·       Who told you THAT?
o   What information did they communicate to you, whether true or false?
Who told you that you were no good? Who told you that you were trash? Who told you that you would never measure up? Who told you that you were stupid? Who made you feel stupid? Who made you feel less than? Who made you feel unworthy?
The answer to those questions for me all started with a lie I believed. I was told something that I thought was truth and built my beliefs on it. When people or circumstances did or said things to me, it made the lie that much more believable.
As I grew up certain situations were fertile soil for that lie to take root in my soul. And like a weed it grew and dominated my thought life.
·       Since I am no good – I might as well be bad.
·       Since I am trash – I might as well act like it.
·       Since I will never measure up – I might as well give up now.
·       Since I am stupid – I might as well not learn.
·       Since I am less than – I might as well live like it.
·       Since I am unworthy – I might as well accept it.
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.  We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”
We are in a war and that war begins in our minds. Yet we think it is satisfactory to deal with the conflict like the world does: Drink it away, excuse it away, ignore it, fight, or get angry.
None of those tactics work they merely keep us fighting in a war without armor. We are told to use God’s weapons not worldly weapons to:
1.     Take EVERY thought captive.
2.     Make it obedient to Christ.
How do we do that?
Grab every thought that enters our mind that is contrary, in opposition to, a lie, or an obstacle about who God is and what He is about. Then quote scripture to it!
Destroy it by proving it is false by quoting what is truth. For example:
My THOUGHT:                           CHANGED TO:
I am no good                              I am clothed in righteousness (Isa. 62:10)
I am trash                                   I am God’s treasure possession. (Deut. 7:6)
I am stupid                                  I have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:16)
Soon I discovered as my thoughts changed my life changed.  The wrong thinking began to decrease as I replaced it with right thinking. My outlook was different, my attitude was adjusted, and my relationship with the Lord was growing deeper.
Don’t believe everything you think. Sometimes you find out it was all wrong.

Amy, don't you find people often think alike but don't ever tell anyone? I love exposing the lies so we can live in freedom.
I love you more!

Thanks to you Kathy I am learning what lies we believe about God. So grateful to be changing those thoughts and seeing with my own eyes how much God loves me and is for me. He is not screaming, yelling and pointing fingers….. Thank you for being available.
